Ottawa Aces look to Canadian athletes from all sports to build rugby roster
After announcing they will join the new 14-team North American Rugby League next season, the Ottawa Aces are looking to begin stocking their roster.
The Aces will be holding elite-level, by-invitation-only trials this summer. It’s expected the Aces and Toronto Wolfpack, who will join the NARL in 2022 — the league’s second season — will play a Canada Cup competition, possibly in August.
The primary focus for the trials, which will be held in Ottawa, will be on selecting the best local talent from Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec. But the Aces are also looking for players from across the country: The club is committed to offering at least 16 professional contracts to Canadians for the 2022 season.
“Whether you’re a football player, rugby player, hockey player or just a gifted athlete who thinks you can play the greatest game of all, this is your chance to prove it,” Aces general manager Gareth Reid said. “If selected, you will be invited to join the club for an initial 5-6-week paid trial period and those successful at the end will be awarded a full-time professional contract with the club for 2022.”
Athletes are encouraged to send their resumes to email@example.com and include access to highlights and game footage from their sport.
